A VISION FOR THE PASTORAL CARE OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD
We envision a future for our diocese where every parish and each Catholic is intentionally engaged in the mission of proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. This future will be anchored by the seven pillars of a mission-oriented church: evangelization, discipleship, worship, community, service, stewardship, and leadership.
EVANGELIZATION
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus has entrusted us with a message of good news for the world. The pillar of Evangelization involves all the ways we proclaim Christ—in word and deed—inviting others to encounter him personally and join the Church in her mission.
DISCIPLESHIP
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Discipleship is the lifelong journey of conversion and growth in Christ. This pillar involves catechesis, formation, and all the practices that help us live as intentional disciples.
WORSHIP
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
God is worshiped in both communal celebrations and personal prayer. The pillar of Worship centers on the Church’s liturgy, especially the Eucharist, and the life of prayer that sustains us daily.
COMMUNITY
“You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
God calls us to be his people. The pillar of Community fosters belonging and communion. It includes all the ways we accompany one another in faith, build relationships, and grow as one body of Christ.
SERVICE
“And who is my neighbour?”
Service flows from our encounter with Christ and leads us to serve him in the poor, the marginalized, and all in need. This pillar expresses the Church’s mission of mercy, justice, and charity.
STEWARDSHIP
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes that everything is a gift. This pillar is an invitation to offer our time, talent, and treasure for the mission entrusted to us by Jesus Christ.
LEADERSHIP
“With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.”
Leadership in the Church is a form of service rooted in Christ, the Good Shepherd. This pillar includes the identification, discernment, formation, equipment and support of both lay and ordained leaders, co-responsible for guiding the faithful in the way of the Gospel.
CONCLUSION
We trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we journey together in faith. We are confident God will realize a mission-oriented renewal in the Diocese of Charlottetown—where every parish becomes a community of disciples, each Catholic a witness of Christ, and every corner of the Island a place where the Gospel is proclaimed and lived.
