“But all shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well”.
These words are possibly the best known sentence of any mystic in the history of Christianity.
They are by Julian of Norwich, a 14th century mystic and anchoress.

She is believed to be the first woman to have written a book in the English vernacular. Her book, Revelations (or ‘Showings’) of Divine Love, describes an extraordinarily positive and confident view of humanity’s relationship with God.
Philip Sheldrake, a distinguished religious historian and theologian, discusses Julian’s rich teaching on prayer and, more broadly, on the spiritual journey.
Julian does not focus on prayer merely as spiritual practice or discuss specific methods of prayer. Rather, for Julian, the notion of “prayer” expresses something far deeper.
‘Prayer’ is the word she uses to describe our life-long relationship with God and God’s relationship with us.
