From the 17th of December until the 23rd December, the Great ‘O’ Antiphons are sung, one each day.
They are among the richest treasures of Advent.
Their beautiful, sombre rhythms seem almost the rhythms of life itself.
They are sung as though with breath held, suffused with reverence and wonder.
With a montage of haunting biblical images of creation, redemption, and ultimate restoration they remind us that Christ, whose glorious return we anticipate and patiently await during Advent, is surrounding and sustaining us already.
He is truly Emmanuel, “God among us”.
