Pope Francis officially opened the Synod on Synodality: Communion, Participation, Mission in Rome on Sunday, October 10. 2021.
The Diocese of Charlottetown celebrated the opening of the Synod the following Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Over the next eight months, the Diocesan Synod Committee, received approximately thirty reports from across the diocese.
These reports represent various small groups, religious congregations, parish councils, and lay organizations across our diocese.
The submitted reports were prayerfully reviewed and synthesized into the attached Diocesan Report, by members of the Diocesan Synod team.
From the reports, four common themes emerged: inclusivity in the Church, the Church as servant, the need for transparency in the Church, and the role of the laity. The full report is available below.
Our Diocesan Report was submitted to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) in July 2022. The CCCB gathered the reports from across the country, and released their National Report (which can be found here).
We are now in the continental phase of the synodal process, with the reports from the various bishops conferences, such as the CCCB, being reviewed and synthesized into a single report for each continent.
These continental reports will be forwarded to Rome for review in order to prepare the working document for the Synod gathering in 2023.
