St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish & The Holy Childhood Association

May 15, 2022

This year, children and families of St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish Catechetics Program have supported children who are less fortunate through the Holy Childhood Association (HCA); one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies.

The purpose of this organization is to raise awareness about the needs of children who live in mission dioceses around the world.

Equipped with the motto “Children helping Children,” children struggling with homelessness, disability, and hardship are aided by other generous children who strive to spread the love of Jesus.

Throughout the 2021-2022 catechetical year, children brought in coins and bills and placed them in the baskets on the prayer table in their classrooms.

Zoom meeting with Sister Juliana discussing 2022 Holy Childhood Association mission projects.

One of the aspects we appreciate most about the HCA is that 100% of the monies raised are sent to projects overseas.

Children talked about doing household chores to raise money, saving money from birthdays and Christmas, and one child in our Grade 1 class donated the money she won from the Knights of Columbus poster contest at Christmas.

As children learn about supporting service projects that we undertake as a faith community, they develop empathy for others. They are very happy to be helping other children less fortunate than themselves.

The children in our catechetical program raised $415.50. This amount was then matched by a family within our program so that the total amount that is being sent to the Holy Childhood Association is $831.

Sister Juliana was delighted to hear the news this week.

We are so proud of each and every child in our program and are also very grateful to all families for their continued support of our program and the service projects we assist with throughout the year!
