“Progressive” Pipe Organ Concert to be Held Across 3 Charlottetown Churches

June 21, 2019

Leo Marchildon at the Organ Console in St. Dunstan's Basilica

Sunday June 23, music lovers will have a unique opportunity to experience a variety of organ music performed in a variety of churches as members of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) present a Progressive Organ Concert.

What exactly do we mean by a Progressive Organ Concert? Well, it’s a bit like a Farmer’s Market for music. People walk into a church to attend a 30 minute recital, and then walk down the street to another church where another 30 minute concert is being given, and so on.

Each recital is held in a different church on a different instrument, performed by different artists. It’s a bit like a musical sampler platter, as well as a chance to check out some of the most beautiful churches in Charlottetown.

The fun all begins at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Prince Street with a 30 minute program from 1:30 – 2 pm.

The next concert is held at Trinity Unity Church, also located on Prince Street from 2:30 – 3 pm.

The final concert takes place at St. Dunstan’s Basilica on Great George St., from 3:30 – 4 pm.

Between each concert is a 30 minute break allowing people to leisurely make their way to the new location and “clean their ears”!

Performers include Don Fraser, Leo Marchildon, Tom Loney, Ann Francis, Elizabeth Borman and Marilyn Dodd (flute). As the date of this event coincides with Diversity Sunday in Charlottetown, please plan ahead to ensure nearby parking.

Admission to any or all recitals is by free will offering. All proceeds will be directed to establishing a Scholarship Fund to help educate aspiring student organists.
