“New Pilgrim Path” is a Irish non-profit website with an international following. It is aimed at introducing fellow Christians of all denominations to the great wealth of online spiritual resources that our small team has discovered, and continues to discover. In addition to our permanent pages (Daily Prayer, Inspiration, Sunday Homily Resources, Sacred Music, etc) we feature a ‘Website of the Week’, ‘Poem of the Week’ and ‘Music of the Week’.

Our website this week (starting Sunday) is an introduction to Skellig Michael (which famously features as a location in the recent ‘Star Wars’ films). 500 years or so after the death of Christ, the first monks arrived on this remote island, 12km from Ireland’s south west coast, lying at the very edge of the then known world. The monastery that they established in this inhospitable environment remains one of the most remarkable testaments to human faith on earth. The ancient history of Skellig Michael, its sacredness as a place, its influence on Christianity, its status as a place of pilgrimage, and its breath-taking beauty are all explored through words and images on the featured website of the week at www.newpilgrimpath.ie
The website of the present week is: https://www.pray.com.au/with-jesus-in-the-desert-a-retreat-for-a-time-of-isolation/
This retreat, With Jesus in the Desert, has been prepared by the staff of Jesuit Communications for the use of people who have to isolate themselves for 14 days during the Coronavirus pandemic. Others, particularly those who are living under lockdown, may also find it helpful – and all are invited to participate in whatever way is most helpful.
