Taizé in France is an ecumenical monastic community comprising over 100 brothers from Catholic and Protestant traditions. It welcomes visitors from across the world and has become one of the world’s most important sites of ecumenical Christian pilgrimage, with a focus on youth.
Over 100,000 young people from around the world make pilgrimages to Taizé each year for prayer, Bible study, sharing, and communal work.
The Taizé chant is a form of contemporary liturgical song.
It uses repetitive structures that can easily be memorized, along with other parts for solo voices, choirs, and instruments. Its very simplicity brings immense peace and calmness.
Even those who may not believe in the religious element of the music would not be able to deny its beauty. It is a valuable aid to meditation and prayer, whether individual or communal.
