There are also cases of this being sent as a text message. I know of at least THREE pastors whose names have been inserted into the message. The email will arrive as above, showing the name of the priest, and if replied to the imposter will ask for gift cards for a friend who is in hospital.
If you receive an email (or text) from a priest asking for a favour, verify the address (phone number) in your contact list or on the diocesan website. There are likely other email addresses being used as the source, so always verify.
