We looked for quick and safe results, only to find ourselves overwhelmed by impatience and anxiety. Prisoners of a virtual reality, we lost the taste and flavour of the truly real.”
These words are from Pope Francis’ latest encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, which has been hailed as an extraordinary example of thought leadership at a time where there is a real sense of despair on many sides, and an absence of social imagination about what might come next.
