Saturday February 1st, consecrated men and women from across our diocese gathered with the faithful from the diocese at Holy Redeemer Church in Charlottetown to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. Bishop Joseph was the main celebrant and homilist for this special occasion, which coincides with the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, reminding us that consecrated life is a reflection of Christ’s light in the world.
In his homily, Bishop Joseph reflected on the Gospel scene of Simeon and Anna in the Temple, highlighting how these two faithful servants, led by the Holy Spirit, recognized Christ in their midst while many others overlooked Him. Bishop Joseph continued saying that, like Simeon and Anna, consecrated men and women are called to be vigilant in faith, to see and proclaim Christ’s presence in today’s world. He also emphasized the importance of hope, drawing a parallel between the elderly Simeon joyfully holding the infant Jesus and the way consecrated life carries forward the mission of Christ across generations.
This gathering was a moment of gratitude—to thank God for the gift of consecrated life, to recognize the faithful service of religious men and women, and to renew their commitment to be witnesses of hope and love in the Church. We are deeply grateful to all who joined in prayer and celebration, supporting those who have dedicated their lives to God. May we, like Simeon and Anna, always recognize the presence of Christ in our midst and proclaim His light to all.
