Missionaries representing the Catholics of our diocese in 2020/2021

Amber Laybolt (St. Dunstan’s Basilica)
My name is Amber, I am 21 years old, and I am from Charlottetown. A bit about me is that I thoroughly appreciate a sunny hike, a good chat, cooking, a really good board game, and jamming around a bonfire on the beach with friends. I also recently finished my 3rd year of Nursing at U.P.E.I. (which I really really have fallen in love with).

This year, the Lord has called me away from nursing to pursue Him in a whole new way on NET Canada and I am super pumped. Knowing Jesus has been the greatest gift, and it brings me so much joy to be able to have the opportunity to share that on a mission year. I am grateful for this calling that has been placed on my heart and to be able to serve with so many young ladies and gents.
I would love to invite you to consider partnering with me throughout this mission. You can support me through prayers or financially, whatever you can give is massively appreciated. However, if you can donate $50 (or more) or donate monthly, you will receive a NET newsletter and a personal letter from myself updating you on our year. I ask if it is on your heart to give, please do!
I thank you graciously for taking the time to read about and consider supporting me. That is SO appreciated. You will be in my prayers this year! God bless.

Patrick Grant (St. Dunstan’s Basilica)
Hello! My name is Patrick and I love staying active through hiking, surfing, skateboarding, and playing sports! I also love taking it easy and watching movies and YouTube! Did someone just say YouTube? I LOVE making YouTube videos with my friends! My dream job is to be a film director.

This is my fourth year in Ireland and my third year with NET. I absolutely love this ministry and being able to share something that has impacted my life in such a massive way – my faith! Ever since I encountered the love of Jesus for the first time when I was 14, I have had the desire to share it with anyone who will listen!
This is my second year with mission staff for NET Ireland. Last year while discerning what I was going to do, I remember eating lunch at Lough Derg, and suddenly feeling so convicted to follow in the footsteps of St Patrick by remaining in Ireland and specifically on NET Staff!

Laura Mark (St. Francis of Assisi)
I was born on Prince Edward Island and while I went to church on Sundays with my family, and to Catholic events with my friends, my faith was never my own. It was something I did not a relationship with a personal God.At a Steubenville conference, I heard a speaker say Jesus saw my face when he was on the cross. I didn’t understand why God would care about someone unimportant like me, but the phrase stuck with me all day. That evening, during adoration, I had an experience where I heard God’s voice saying, “I love you, no matter what”. I had never felt this immense, powerful, and overwhelming sense of peace and at that moment I said yes to the love Jesus was offering.

I first experienced CCO on the World Youth Day mission to Poland in 2016 where I realized that CCO’s core values were also my core values. I came to know Christ by people continually inviting me, and this mirrored the missionary heart of the movement. And I truly believe universities are where we can leave the biggest impact! I am starting a new adventure as Team Leader at Carleton in Ottawa, this year. I’m thrilled to continue this mission in a new way.

Kristin Scott (St. Francis of Assisi)
Hi! I’m Kristin, just an east coast gal who’s followed God’s radical call away from the salty shores. He brought me to NET after high school, where I travelled the country as a missionary for 2 years, and I am now on year 2 of working as a supervisor of those travelling missionaries!

The past few years of my life have been so transformational! I have been a part of countless people’s journeys closer to Christ, most recently in the lives of the missionaries who I supervise. My job is to care for the women of my teams, challenging them to grow in holiness, and courage in evangelization. The Lord has really blessed me with the privilege to have a hand in the formation of these wonderful people who are out there proclaiming Christ’s love to young people! It’s honestly so incredible! I would love to invite you to have a part in this mission, too. The generosity of kind donors like yourself is what makes all of this possible. In a society that’s plagued with despair and selfishness, young people need a message of hope and love right now more than ever. Please help me to provide that through your prayers and financial support! Feel free to email me if you have any questions at kristin@netcanada.ca God bless!

Thomas Cheeseman (St. Theresa the Little Flower)
Hiya! My name is Thomas Cheeseman and I am from the tiny Island of PEI. I am nineteen years old and I am the third oldest of nine. I love playing guitar and singing, making people laugh, and I also love playing my favourite sport Squash.

I applied to do NET because God has called me to take a year away from my usual life and do something fantastic by serving him and evangelizing to youth.

Kolbe Grant (St. Dunstan’s Basilica)
My name is Kolbe Grant I am 19 years old. I was born into a Catholic family and my parents met on NET in 1993. I love woodworking and making pens.

I had always hosted NETers through my childhood and thought they were super cool. They inspired me to join NET and hope to make a difference in someone’s life.

Luke Vail (St. Dunstan’s Basilica) NET Australia
G’day! I’m Luke Vail, I’m an Islander that has been called to do mission work with NET ministries in Australia! I came here in January of 2020, to run youth retreats and to work in Catholic schools to share with students the importance of faith. I Love this work and I’m passionate for youth ministry! But I didn’t realize how challenging it would be after seeing how spiritually poor Australia is.

Most Australians receive education through the catholic school system, which is great, but most catholic school teachers are not practicing Catholics. So there is such a need for practicing Catholics, like NETters, to go into those schools to lead by faith so students can be inspired to live their own faith. God has been working in me my whole life to be prepared for this big year of 2020. Since the coronavirus hit we have had to change our ministry from face to face to online. It was a tough switch for the team but I had been already equipped with filming, video editing and the social media skill I needed to keep this ministry alive! God has been so good to me and I’ve grown so much whilst doing his work here in Australia! I am overjoyed to see what the Lord has in store for me as I continue this mission in 2021! But I cannot continue this mission without the help of financial and spiritual support.
