2021 Valentines for Vets

February 12, 2021

During the recent in-person classes for the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation, students from St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish gathered to support the Veterans Affairs Canada project, Valentines for Vets.

The students were able to make 35 hand-crafted valentine cards sharing heartfelt messages of love and gratitude for Veterans who have served in the Canadian Military.

Students were delighted to create meaningful valentine cards to give to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to help preserve the freedom we are blessed with today.

Public Health protocols were observed. Some photos feature parent volunteers and catechists with their children.

This week, these beautiful valentine cards were given to Johanne Waite, Veterans Affairs Canada.

She shares, “When you receive these valentine cards, they are precious to read and bring joy to your day. Not only do they bring joy to the Veterans who receive them, but also to the families of these Veterans as they are filled with joy that their loved one has not been forgotten.”

The valentine cards received will be held for a period of time, due to COVID-19, and will then be sent to long-term care facilities across Canada to be given to Veterans in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

We are very proud of the children from the St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish Religious Education Program who are learning how to share their faith through acts of kindness that bring hope, joy, and peace to others!
