Welcome Fr. Roland Berngeh Njoyir

February 17, 2026

The Diocese of Charlottetown is pleased to welcome Fr. Roland Berngeh Njoyir, coming from the Diocese of Kumbo in Cameroon, West Africa.

Fr. Roland was born on September 9, 1956, in Jakiri, in Cameroon’s Northwest Region, where approximately one-quarter of the population is Catholic. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 10, 1985, and has faithfully served the Church for nearly four decades. His ministry in Cameroon included roles as Pastor, Vicar General, and Rector of a minor seminary, offering leadership in parish life, priestly formation, and diocesan administration.

In 2020, Fr. Roland began missionary service in the Diocese of Portland in the United States, where he ministered for five years. He now embraces God’s providential call to serve the people of Prince Edward Island. With gratitude and joy, he looks forward to working alongside the bishop, priests, consecrated men and women, and lay faithful of the diocese, contributing humbly to the Church’s ongoing mission of evangelization on the Island. Fr. Roland often remarks that only our previous bishop, Bishop Joseph Dabrowski, C.S.M.A., fully understands how God’s hand guided his arrival here.

Fr. Roland’s vocation began in childhood. His father worked as a cleaner for an English missionary priest, Fr. Anton Smith, who frequently stayed in their family home while on pastoral visits. Witnessing priestly life so closely left a lasting impression and, from an early age, Fr. Roland felt called exclusively to the priesthood.

Two deep devotions continue to shape his life and ministry: Jesus in the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through family Eucharistic adoration, daily Mass, and the praying the Rosary, Fr. Roland learned to place his trust firmly in Christ and Our Lady. He often shares that there are two supports one can lean on without fear of falling — Jesus in the Eucharist and Mary, our Mother.

Fr. Roland is happy to care for the Catholic faithful of the diocese and has been appointed Parochial Administrator of Sacred Heart (Alberton), St. Anthony (Bloomfield), Immaculate Conception (Brae), Corpus Christi (Glenwood), and St. Brigid Parish (Foxley River), effective February 12, 2026.
