Tuesday, October 1, 2024, members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) from across Prince Edward Island gathered at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cornwall to welcome their National President, Linda Dollard, who was visiting conferences in the Maritimes.
Her visit to the Island was an opportunity for her to meet the members of the five SSVP Conferences on PEI and to exchange information and answer questions about the SSVP in Canada.
The SSVP conferences on PEI have their home in the following parishes/units: St. Dunstan (Charlottetown), Holy Redeemer (Charlottetown), St. Pius X (Charlottetown), Good Shepherd (Cornwall) and St. Paul (Summerside).
This meeting with the National President also provided an opportunity for members of the five conferences to get to know each other better and to share their respective experiences.
The Good Shepherd Conference hosted the meeting at St. Francis of Assisi Church, which began with noon day mass, presided by Fr. Peter Wojakiewicz, CSMA, followed by a delicious potluck lunch and a time of information sharing during which each of the five conferences presented their activities.
The National President, in turn, provided information on the work of the Society across Canada. (see ssvp.ca) The National President expressed her thanks to all involved for the wonderful work that is being done by the SSVP on PEI.
