The Syro-Malabar faithful of St. Thomas Mission, Charlottetown, gathered in joyful celebration for their Parish Day on November 15, 2025, at Jack Blanchard Hall, Charlottetown.
The celebration was inaugurated by Bishop Joseph, who led the gathering with an opening prayer, followed by warm words of welcome from members of the community. In his inaugural address, Bishop Joseph reflected on the importance of Church fellowship and community solidarity, highlighting the central role of faith, family values, and the responsibility to promote and preserve traditions while passing on the faith to the next generation. Using the powerful symbol of light, he noted that just as a lamp must be lit in order to give light, so too must our faith burn brightly and be shared, so that others may be drawn to Christ. He invited the community to witness their faith by both word and example, pointing to the gathering itself as a beautiful witness of family and community unity.
Following Bishop Joseph’s address, the evening continued with a lamp-lighting ceremony. The celebration continued with music, skits, and Bible story dramatizations, allowing children, youth, and adults to share their talents while fostering the rich traditions of the Syro-Malabar Church. The evening concluded with a communal dinner, filled with joy and fellowship.
At the conclusion of the evening, Fr. Jaison Koonanickal, pastor of St. Thomas Mission, expressed heartfelt thanks to Bishop Joseph for his pastoral care and steadfast support of the community during his two and a half years of service and ministry among them. The community, in turn, offered Bishop Joseph a warm and prayerful farewell as he prepares to assume his new role as Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton, assuring him of their best wishes and continued prayers.
The celebration concluded with a communal dinner, offering everyone an opportunity to spend quality time together.
