Senator Kim Pate: Guaranteed Livable Income

Senator Kim Pate will speak on “Why We Need a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income” at two public events in Prince Edward Island that are free admission. These events are sponsored by the Saint Dunstan’s University Institute for Christianity and Culture at UPEI.

These presentations will occur on April 3rd at Westisle Composite High School in Elmsdale, and on April 4th at Room 242 in MacDougall Hall, University of Prince Edward Island.  Both will be at 7:00 p.m.

Senator Pate has introduced a bill in the Senate called S-233, An Act to develop a National Framework for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income.” This bill is currently being studied by the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance.

The Hon. Kim Pate was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2016. She is a nationally renowned advocate who has spent the last 40 years working in and around the legal and penal systems of Canada, with and on behalf of some of the most marginalized, victimized, criminalized and institutionalized — particularly imprisoned youth, men and women.

Senator Pate is a member of the Order of Canada, a recipient of numerous awards and holds six honourary doctorate degrees.
