The Canadian Bishops recognize a need to understand more deeply the lived experience within Indigenous communities. In light of this, Emily Spencer will visit the Martha Spirituality Centre on Saturday, October 21 from 2-4 pm to outline the ministry of the Mi’kmaq Family Resource Centre and introduce us to the art of beading. In lieu of a fee, donations to the MFRC will be welcome. Please pray for the Bishops of Canada as they Gather for the 2023 Annual Plenary Assembly from September 25 to 28.  The Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) will gather in King City, Ontario, for its annual meeting, bringing together 79 Bishops to deliberate, discern, and discuss the life of the Church in Canada, including: The Expansion of the Eligibility Criteria for MAiD and the urgency of promoting Palliative Care; an update on the activities of  Development and Peace – Caritas Canada (DPCC);  Presentations on Responsible Ministry and the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons; reflections on the three dimensions of synodality (communion, participation and mission) in preparation for the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops; and reports from numerous sub-committees in areas of pastoral care and responsibility. As is customary, the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič, will address the Bishops in his capacity as the Pope’s representative in Canada. A formal press conference will be held at the close of the Plenary Assembly meeting on Thursday, September 28 at 3 p.m. ADT.

Book Study: A Woman’s Way through the Twelve Steps by Stephanie Covington, Ph.D, aims to support women’s spiritual growth and healing. The book focuses on women’s issues in recovery, using the format of Twelve Steps programs. Facilitated by Sr. Debbie Peters, this weekly book study (1-3 pm) will begin at the Martha Spirituality Centre on Wednesday, October 11 and conclude on Wednesday, November 15.  The fee is $25.00 plus the cost of the book, which can be purchased at the Bookmark. Confessions heard during the Holy Hour.
