Celebration of St. James’ Day in Georgetown

August 7, 2024

Bishop Joseph recently celebrated Mass in Georgetown at St. James’ Parish on Saturday, July 28. The parish community annually celebrates the Feast Day of St. James with a special Mass held on the Saturday Mass closest to July 25.

Claudia Batchilder, a parishioner and also a Lay Pastoral Associate, shared, “Bishop Joseph spoke about St. James fitting in among our fisher folk, and we can be like the boy helping to feed all the people. Whatever we have, bring to the Lord and He will supply all. He also spoke how the elders of those gathered have shared the faith.” During Mass, a grandmother and her granddaughters took up the offertory gifts.

Bishop Joseph congratulated the parish community on working together to provide a place of worship and to have a choir that encourages all to worship in song with organ and guitar. Following Mass, and Bishop Joseph’s blessing with a First Class Relic of St. James, the parish community and visitors continued celebrating with strawberry shortcake on the lawn. Bishop Joseph fit right in with the fun and laughter, which Fr. Kishore encourages among his flock.

On behalf of the parish community, Claudia shared, “Thank you, Bishop Joseph, for making our celebration extra special! Your words of encouragement were much appreciated.”
