On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Bishop Joseph Dabrowski celebrated his first Mass in Spanish with the Spanish-speaking Catholic community of the Diocese of Charlottetown. The joyful liturgy, held at Saint Pius X church was part of the Diocesan Jubilee Year celebrations. More than one hundred people gathered for the celebration.
Bishop Joseph was joined by Fr. Walter Flynn, pastor of the hosting parish, and Fr. Peter Wojakiewicz, pastor of the Good Shepherd Pastoral Unit in Cornwall.
In his homily, Bishop Joseph reflected on the question posed by Jesus in the Gospel: “Where is your treasure?”
Drawing from Luke 12:13–21, he warned against storing up wealth while neglecting the needs of others, sharing a moving story of a migrant woman who died in loneliness after being turned away by someone who had forgotten his own immigrant past. The bishop encouraged everyone—especially migrants—to be “rich in God,” showing compassion, gratitude, and faith.
He also invited couples married civilly to consider receiving the Sacrament of Marriage this October at a special Jubilee celebration at St. Dunstan’s Basilica Cathedral.
He thanked the community for their vibrant faith and for passing it on to their children, faith, traditions, language, customs and Christian values and encouraged them to continue being people of hope and love as they build their lives in new realities.
Following the Mass, the community gathered in the parish hall for a lively and heartwarming reception—a beautiful sign of unity, faith, and fellowship.
¡Que sigamos siendo peregrinos de esperanza, ricos en fe y en el amor de Dios!
