On Sunday, October 19, Catholics around the globe will celebrate “World Mission Sunday”, first instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1926.
This annual celebration reminds us that through baptism, we are all called to be missionaries – whether as parents teaching the faith to our children, young people sharing the Gospel with friends, or the elderly offering prayers and sacrifices for the missions.
A special collection will be taken in all parishes of our Diocese on the weekend of October 19. The funds will go directly to support the Church’s missionary work in some of the world’s poorest communities, helping to build chapels and schools, provide health care, and sustain priests, sisters, and lay missionaries in their service.
