Statement on National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, 2025

June 20, 2025

As we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we give thanks for the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of Indigenous Peoples throughout Canada, and in particular the Mi’kmaq First Nations in Prince Edward Island.

To deepen our understanding of Indigenous Peoples, and continue on our journey in toward reconciliation which Pope Francis began, we are called to open our hearts and minds, and to listen carefully and with humility.

Bishop Joseph Dabrowski joins the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops in gratitude and offers prayers that this special day may be a time of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to walking together in a spirit of hope and solidarity toward reconciliation.
