Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV

May 9, 2025

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

“Habemus Papam!”
With great joy and gratitude, we join the universal Church in welcoming our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. In God’s good providence, and with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Cardinals have given us a new shepherd to guide the Church.

Upon his election, Pope Leo XIV’s first words to the world were:
“Peace be with all of you. Dearest brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for God’s flock. I too would like this greeting of peace to enter your heart, to reach your families, to all people, wherever they are, to all peoples, to the whole earth. Peace be with you! This is the peace of the Risen Christ, an unarmed and disarming peace, humble and persevering. It comes from God, God who loves us all unconditionally”.

We are deeply moved by these words, which reflect the spirit of Christ Himself. As the Church embraces this new pontificate, let us pray that Pope Leo XIV’s ministry be marked by peace, unity, and the spirit of humble service. May he faithfully guard the apostolic faith and lead God’s flock with courage and tender love.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Joseph Dabrowski, CSMA
Bishop of Charlottetown
