St. Mary’s of the People (Hunter River) Cemetery Sunday: There will be a service of prayer and song at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hunter River on Sunday, September 10 at noon. All are welcome. St. Michael’s, Corran Ban, Cemetery Prayer Service: Saturday, Sept 23, following 4:00 pm Mass and concluding with a pot luck supper in the parish hall. All are welcome to attend.

The summer concert series at St. Dunstan’s Basilica concludes with one special bonus concert featuring soprano Andrea Corder and organist Leo Marchildon on Wednesday August 30 at 1 pm. Program includes Marchildon’s song cycle “Remembrances” written for clarinet, cello, piano and voice. Admission is by free will offering.

Choristers are invited to join the Diocesan choir in providing music for a special ecumenical service at St. Francis Church, Cornwall celebrating the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on Friday, September 1 at 7 pm. A single rehearsal will be held on Thursday August 31, 7 – 8:30 pm at St. Francis under the direction of Leo Marchildon.

SIMON & ST. JUDE PARISH PICNIC: Tignish Parish grounds on Sunday, August 27, beginning with mass at 11 am. Local Entertainment from 12-6. Meals to eat in or take out, all day canteen service, silent cake auction, and games (bingo at the Parish Centre) and activities for the whole family. Bring your lawn chairs and stay for the day!!

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, an ecumenical service of music, readings and prayer, is being held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Cornwall on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7:00 pm. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Service is being organized by the Liturgical Commission of the Diocese of Charlottetown. A reception will follow.

Become a Hospice Volunteer in East Prince: Help patients and their families at end of life.To qualify you need to attend a 9 session training course on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings between 6:30 and 8:30 pm from 12th September until 11th October at Prince County Hospital. D&P Famine Relief Effort for Eastern Africa and Yemen: Between March 17th and June 30th, Canadians rallied to donate $2.5 Million to Development and Peace, of which 1.3 M is eligible for matching funds from the Government of Canada’s Famine Relief. Thus, thanks to D&P donors, a total of $3.8 million will be put towards relief efforts in Africa and Yemen. Donations made directly to Development and Peace are currently being sent to its on-the-ground partners Caritas South Sudan, Caritas Nigeria, Trocaire in Somalia and CAFOD in Yemen to supplement the emergency aid, such as food, water, sanitation services and medical care, which they have been delivering since February. Our own diocesan contribution to this important cause was $43,658.85, thanks to many generous parishioners.

From Provincial President of the PEI Council CWL: a sincere thank you to all Parish Councils and their members for all the work that was accomplished before, during, and after the 2017 national convention. It was a spectacular convention here on PEI. Your generous gifts of prayer, time, funding, and donations of items where appreciated and enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Bishop Grecco, provincial spiritual advisor Fr. Brian MacDougall and all priests who participated, to the convention planning committee and to Leo Marchildon and the choir at the Basilica for the beautiful music.
