Pilgrimage to the Holy Land:  Want to experience something of the life of Jesus?  Do you want to experience the places that our Lord walked and where He spoke to the people? Join Fr. Andrew Handrahan on a guided pilgrimage to some of Israel’s holy sites.  From October 21st-29th, 2020, the pilgrimage will travel to the Holy Land and visit such places as Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Transfiguration, Jerusalem, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.  Step into the River Jordan where Jesus was baptized, and stand on the hill where Jesus gave his sermon on the mount; walk through the places that our Lord himself walked, and experience the city of Jerusalem as you make the way of the cross which Jesus suffered.  Contact Krisanne Butler at CAA Travel for more information:  kbutler@atlantic.caa.ca   or  at 902-892-0296.   An information session will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 PM in the basement of Immaculate Conception Church, Wellington (31017 RTE 2).  If you have questions, inquire soon – seats are limited.

St. Monica & St. Augustine

Calling all mothers, step-mothers, adoptive mothers and grandmothers: Tuesday, August 27th is the feast day of St. Monica, St Augustine’s mother. She prayed constantly for her son. To honour St. Monica, and to support all mothers, we are having a special Mass at 7 pm in St. Monica’s Chapel at St. Augustine’s Church, Rustico. It is important for us to know we are not the only ones praying for our children to have success, to live a good life. All women who have people they pray for are invited to come celebrate Mass together. We’ll have muffins, tea, coffee and juice as we socialize after Mass.

The Blessed Virgin Mary

Monthly First Saturday Gatherings honoring Blessed Virgin Mary will resume in October, following Saturday evening mass at the Basilica.  We have a presentation, discussion, rosary and a snack.  So far, volunteers have spoken about their visits to the shrines at Fatima, Lourdes, Guadalupe, Knock (Ireland), Simala (Philippines), Medjugore, and Cap de la Madeline, and about the feasts of the Annunciation & the Immaculate Conception.  All very inspiring.  If you have a special interest in Marian Shrines or know someone who visited one, please contact raymaryu@hotmail.com or 902-628-2397.

Immaculate Conception, Palmer Road, Sunday August 18th beginning with Outdoor Mass at 11 am; St. Simon and St. Jude, Tignish, Sunday August 25th.

Bishop MacEachern’s Tomb

The annual “Bishop’s Mass” celebrating the first bishop of the Diocese of Charlottetown,  Bishop Angus Bernard MacEachern, will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on August 18th at St. Andrew’s Chapel with Bishop Richard Grecco presiding.  In conjunction with the Mass at St. Andrew’s Chapel, there will be a pilgrimage walk at 2:00 p.m. beginning from St. Andrew’s Parish Church in Mount Stewart.  Following a prayer, the participants will follow the trail along the river to the burial ground near St. Andrew’s Chapel.  One can walk up the cemetery road to the Chapel or take a car ride provided. There will also be a blessing of cycles, bicycles or motorcycles.  Cyclists may use the trail while motorcycles can use the highway.  Almost every year since the opening of St. Andrew’s Chapel in 1990, the Friends have arranged for a Mass to be said at the Chapel in memory of Bishop MacEachern. The Mass is said in August to commemorate the arrival of Angus MacEachern on the Island on that month in 1790.  Following Mass, a light lunch will be served. Transportation will be provided back to the parish church for those leaving their car at Mount Stewart.
