Recently, Confirmation Candidates and parents of The Bishop MacEachern Pastoral Unit were invited to participate in a Poverty Banquet at St. Mary’s Parish Centre in Montague.
The guests represented a cross section of the entire world.
As they arrived they drew a ticket at random that was assigned to high, middle or low income.
The number of tickets in each group was based on statistics about the number of people living in each of these groups.
Each income level received a corresponding meal – filling and nutritious or sparse and simple, in proportion to the way food is distributed throughout the world.
Some members of the middle income food were grateful to receive a serving of beans and rice.
