Once again, we are preparing for our celebration of Lent and the Share Lent Campaign. This year’s theme is a continuation of the Fall Education/Action theme, Share the Journey. The focus is the 68.5 million forcibly displaced migrants in the world today.
The Share Lent kits have arrived, and you will see an order form containing the usual Share Lent resources – posters, Mini-magazine, Solidarity Calendar, Campaign Guide and Liturgical Resources, Way of the Cross, Prayer cards, Share Year-Round Monthly Giving Brochure and Collection envelopes. As you are aware, we order in bulk for the Diocese to save mailing costs.
This year there is also a Solidarity Jar Sticker which families, individuals and businesses can use to increase the Share Lent Collection.
If you require any changes in your parish’s order, kindly let us know by February 15. The Campaign Guide and Mini-Magazine are full of ideas you can use in Liturgical celebrations and actions to raise funds for the work of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada. We hope your parishioners will find the ideas useful and that they organize walks, 25 hour THINKfasts, Stations of the Cross, Symbols for Solidarity Sunday, hunger meals – any action that will help people focus on Development and Peace –Caritas Canada’s work with Refugees in the various places around the world.
Pope Francis urges us “to undergo a true transformation of heart. Faced with a culture of indifference that confuses minds and stifles hearts, he invites us to build a culture of encounter – a culture of mercy and compassion.” These are beautiful thoughts that we can take to heart as we help refugees carry their cross and as we work to get to the root causes of why so many people are forced to leave home. We are able to meet our brothers and sisters who come to PEI and Development and Peace – Caritas Canada and Caritas Internationalis meet them in the refugee camps and line-ups where they struggle to survive.
In the prayer intentions for the first Sunday of Lent, we pray for the children, women and men in our world, who are forced to flee their homes because of war, persecution, natural disasters, extreme poverty and the destruction of their environment. We can help by promoting the Share lent campaign and encouraging people to give generously.
Sincerely and in Solidarity
