Rite of Election

March 2, 2013

The Rite of Election was celebrated during the 5:00pm Mass at St. Dunstan’s Basilica on February 17, 2013. The Rite of Election is an important liturgy celebrated on the First Sunday of Lent with catechumens (unbaptized) from across the Diocese as they begin their final preparations for initiation into the life of Christ at Easter.

Bishop Richard Grecco presided at the liturgy in which one catechumen, Yuejun-Monica Wang (St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish, Charlottetown), was enrolled in the book of the Elect.

Karrie-Anne Boute (St. Simon and St. Jude Parish, Tignish) and Latisha Lynch (St. Simon and St. Jude Parish, Tignish), two other catechumens, were unable to participate. All are invited to support them through prayer and example. We also remember those candidates (baptized) in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) process across the Diocese, as they make their final preparations to become fully initiated into the Roman Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.
