Synopsis Between them Peter and Paul have three feast days in the liturgical calendar (Conversion of St. Paul – January 25; Chair of St. Peter – February 22 and Peter and Paul, Apostles on June 29). Peter is spokesperson and leader among Jesus’ disciples in the gospels. Paul’s letters are the first or second reading at Mass throughout the year.
Who were these apostles? We will explore the pictures of Peter in the gospels and of both apostles in the epistles and Acts of the Apostles. Then we will sample the stories about their conflicts and martyrdom at Rome told by Christians in the 2nd and 3rd century.
OUR PRESENTER: Pheme Perkins is Joseph Professor of Catholic Spirituality at Boston College.
She is the chair of the Executive Board of the Catholic Biblical Association and author of many books including Peter, Apostle for the Whole Church, I and 2 Peter, James and Jude, and is currently finishing a commentary on I Peter for the Wisdom Commentary series.
Participants are invited to bring their Bible with them.
There will be an opportunity for questions during the presentations.

- Monday, July 2 — Peter in the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke
- Tuesday, July 3 — Peter and Paul as apostles in Acts of the Apostles
- Wednesday, July 4 — Reading their mail: Paul (and Peter) in Galatians, I Corinthians, Romans and I Peter
- Thursday, July 5 — Beyond the NT: the apostles Peter and Paul as martyrs in Rome
