Hi Father Jay,
I hope you are keeping well. Who would have thought that it would come to this? Anyway, Development has been forced to do some virtual campaigning during this Lent. The Bishop has also promised a collection once the churches resume again. In the meantime the many projects of D&P must continue to operate and Share Lent is the big fundraiser.
I’m wondering if you could post the Coronavirus prayer on the website?
A Coronavirus Prayer
Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.”At your command, the sick were made well.
Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus that we may experience your healing love. Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength through quality health care.
Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbours from helping one another.
Heal us from our pride which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders. Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.
Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or who have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair.
Be with the nurses, doctors, researchers, health care professionals and community members who seek to heal and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and be your healing hands.
Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for, or prevent, future outbreaks.
Whether we are at home or abroad, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.
Also, the phone number to make direct donations to D&P in Montreal is: 1-888-664-3387. If you click on the communique below there are lots of good Lenten materials including the homily for the 5th Sunday of Lent.
Would you like for us to also send a short clip in the form of an announcement just reminding people that the Share Lent collection will be taken later after the churches are open once again?
Many Blessings, Father. I hope all is well.
Dear supporter of Development and Peace,
As our human family faces the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to take a moment to send you our wishes for health and resilience in this time of great uncertainty. Our thoughts are also with communities of the Global South whose hardships are compounded by this crisis.
Following the advice of public health authorities, Development and Peace has made the difficult but responsible decision of cancelling or postponing all in-person events and meetings across Canada until further notice.
Despite this situation, we will continue with our Lenten journey of solidarity through a virtual Share Lent campaign. Many resources are already available on our website and in the coming days, we will provide additional activities that let you experience the spiritual renewal of Lent online and express your solidarity with those who need it the most.
As church closures will affect parish collections, we ask you to support Development and Peace’s work by donating by mail, over the phone or online:
Call 1 888 664-3387 to donate
Send a cheque to Development and Peace,
1425 René-Lévesque Blvd. West, 3rd Floor
Montreal (Quebec) H3G 1T7
In these difficult times, the need for solidarity and supporting one another is all the greater, especially for our sisters and brothers in the Global South, whose struggles will be exacerbated by the pandemic.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your solidarity, your commitment and your support in making Share Lent a success even in these extraordinary times.
Yours in solidarity,
Serge Langlois Executive Director, Development and Peace — Caritas Canada
