Greetings and peace be with each of you!
Catechetical Sunday will be celebrated nationally October 1, 2017.
This day – or another day that is more convenient for your parish – is a great opportunity to bring greater awareness to the ministry of catechesis, the calling that all of us have to be missionary disciples, and to encourage more people to volunteer in this ministry.
Having a special commissioning or including prayers of the faithful, as well as taking up an extra collection for the needs in the area of catechetics, are also components that could be included in the liturgy of that day.
The theme for the celebration this year is “Missionary Disciples in the Vineyard of the Lord”
Pope Francis exhorts us that: Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”. (Evangelii Gaudium, no. 120)
Please find attached a pdf document of resources that the CCCB has prepared for the dioceses of our country.
I would encourage you to take a few moments to open the document and see the resources offered, especially further towards the middle and end – there are several thematic resources with quotes from Evangelíi Guadium that could be used in a formation activity for your catechists – or for your parishioners. As we know, all the baptized are called to be missionary disciples – not just those who volunteer in the ministry of catechesis.
Please contact me if I can be of any assistance.
