Advent Retreat on Saturday, Dec.1 from 10 am-3 pm with facilitator Sr. Regina McQuaid CND at the Martha Spirituality Centre located at SDU Place on Great George St. The theme “Kneeling in Bethlehem” invites us to reflect on the Nativity events and how they relate to our daily lives.  Need to register by calling 902-367-3103 or messaging srgemma@eastlink.ca by Nov. 27 or until spaces last.

Scripture Study for Advent: Monday, November 12, 19 and 26 at 7 pm a 3-week study on exploring the Holy Gospels (four portraits, but one Jesus), by Fr. Martin Carter, in the Knights of Columbus room of St. Dunstan’s Basilica (Dorchester St. Entrance). All welcome.

 

Steubenville Atlantic Launch Party!   Join us on Sunday, November 25, 1:30-4:00 pm at St. Paul’s Parish in Summerside to launch registration for Steubenville Atlantic. Chris O’Hara from the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth will be speaking. There will be music, and opportunities to learn about Steubenville Atlantic, hosted in Halifax, July 5-7, 2019. The Launch Party is open to youth in grade 9 and above.

The Island Pregnancy Centre is in the process of preparing for the annual Silent Auction & Dessert Night fundraiser.  The staff and volunteers of the Island Pregnancy Centre are gathering items to place in the auction and are accepting donations of artwork, handmade knits, gift certificates, baked goods, business merchandise as well as a variety of other items.  If you are interested in donating an item, please contact us at 902-370-3700 or charlottetown@islandpregnancycentre.com .   If you are planning on attending this event, mark your calendars for Friday November 16th from 6-8pm at Centre 150, 150 Industrial Crescent, Summerside, or Saturday November 17th from 6-8pm at the Christian Reformed Church, Charlottetown.   We hope to see you there!

Fr. Thomas Reese, sj

Reserve Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 P.M. for the 4th annual Saint Dunstan’s University Faith and Knowledge lecture series.  Guest speaker for this year’s lecture is Father Thomas Reese, a Jesuit, ordained in 1974 and educated at St. Louis University, the Jesuit school of Theology at Berkley and the University of California Berkley where he obtained a Ph.D. in Political Science. Father Reese is well connected at the Vatican and author of many articles and books, including a trilogy on the organization and politics of the Vatican and church in general.   Father Reese will speak on the topic – Where is Pope Francis taking the church?” Father Reese is also attending the current Synod on Youth in Rome and will comment on the results of that event.   The Lecture will be held in MacDougall Hall on the UPEI campus.

The West Prince Right to Life will be having a peaceful pro-life demonstration on Saturday Nov. 10th in Summerside at 11:00 am and it is held along the Roy Boats Ave. on the side of Walmart.

Our Faith and Mental Health:  There will be a presentation on Saturday, November 24th at 10 am in the lower level of St. Dunstan’s Basilica (Dorchester St. entrance) by Tasha MacDonald, Mental Health Nurse, and Dr. Stephen Mawhinney on “How faith can help in emotional well-being.”  Presentation is hosted by St. Dunstan’s CWL. Sarah Svendsen

The Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) presents Sarah Svendsen in performance at St. Peter’s Cathedral, All Souls’ Lane, on Friday November 16th at 7:00 pm. An accomplished soloist, adjudicator, and music educator, Sarah is presently touring Canada as traveling clinician for the RCCO. Her organ recital on Friday will be followed on Saturday November 17th by a 45 minute children’s workshop and mini-recital at Park Royal United Church at 11:00 am. Admission for the Friday recital is by free will offering; the Saturday workshop is free. Further details in the Guardian and the Buzz!
