Praying the Rosary with scripture, song and icons – 7 pm, Wednesday, May 16th, St. Francis of Assisi.  Sponsored by St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Women’s League.  May is the month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady and it is the occasion for a moving tribute of faith and love.  A wonderful way to celebrate Mary!

Diocesan Information Sessions re Refugee Sponsorship:  Two information sessions will highlight responsibilities and rewards of refugee sponsorship:

  • Tuesday, May 15th – Jack Blanchard Family Centre, Holy Redeemer Parish, Charlottetown – 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 17th – St. Paul’s Parish Centre, Summerside, 7:00 p.m. Guest speakers (Dan Doran, Melissa Coffin) will share information regarding services available in the support of refugee sponsorship. Former refugee (Parshu Giri)  and community support group member (David Theuerkauf) will share their experiences.  Refreshments will be served. All are welcome!

Youth and Young Adult Alpha:  We will be running Alpha for youth and young adults, aged 14-35. Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explores big questions about faith and the meaning of life. Each session looks at a different topic and is designed to create conversation. It’s just an open, informal and honest space for anyone, of any faith background or beliefs, who’s curious about Christianity. Each session includes food, short videos, and discussion where you can share your thoughts and ask questions.

The first session will be held on Sunday evenings starting this week, May 13, at 7:00pm in the hall of the St. Paul’s Parish Center in Summerside. New participants are welcome at any time to come join any of the sessions, even if you can’t make it to all of them. Consider inviting a friend to join you in trying Alpha! The PEI Right to Life (RTL) Association will be holding its annual March for LIFE on Sunday May 27th from 2-4pm. Join us at St Pius X Church on St Peter’s Road, Charlottetown, as we walk to the Coles Building on Richmond St. This year’s national theme is “All IN”. In light of the many changes our country has undergone which threaten the life of all, we ask that you come and be ALL IN for a culture of life!  As a kick-off to the March for Life you are invited to the Knights of Columbus Fundraiser Brunch after the 10:30 Mass (12pm) downstairs at St Dunstan’s Basilica in support of the PEI RTL. From Broadway to Hollywood

PEI Pops! From Broadway to Hollywood:  Sunday June 3, 3 pm at St. Paul’s Church, Prince Street, Charlottetown.  Conductor Leo Marchildon transports audiences on a magical carpet ride throughout America with the PEI Pops! as they visit “Oklahoma”, “Chicago” and New York (“West Side Story”). Later in the program they visit the outer limits of the universe with music from Star Trek, Star Wars, E.T., Superman, and much more! Add to this a Salute to the Big Bands, and themes from such Hollywood classics as Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and the Magnificent Seven, and you have one spectacular afternoon of entertainment!  Admission by free-will offering.

Pilgrimage to Shrines of Italy:  Join Fr. Andrew Handrahan on a guided pilgrimage to some of Italy’s holy sites.  From November 6-16th, 2018, the pilgrimage will travel to Italy and visit such places as Rome, Vatican City, Assisi, San Giovanni Rotunda, and Montecassino.  See the relics of St. Benedict, and the place where St. Michael the Archangel appeared; walk through the Catacombs of Rome, and breath in the air of the picturesque town of St. Francis; experience St. Peter’s basilica in Vatican City, and be present for the Holy Father’s Wednesday audience. Cardinal McGuigan native of Rustico Parish

The Island wide Youth Group “The Crew” is now accepting youth going into grade 9 next year. The Crew meets every Thursday from 7:30 – 9:00 in the basement of St Dunstan’s Basilica.  Come and join other Catholic youth from all over the Island – from Souris through to Summerside and beyond. The Ottawa Children’s Choir under the direction of Jamie Loback, will perform an hour-long concert at St. Dunstan’s Basilica, Sunday May 20 at 2:30 pm. Admission is by free-will offering and proceeds will support St. Dunstan’s Refugee Committee Fundraising project, Kakuma to Canada. The Choir is celebrating its 60th anniversary with this tour throughout Eastern Canada.

 

 

 

SDU Scholarship deadlines: The deadline to apply for the St. Dunstan’s Board of Governors Award and the St. Dunstan’s Post Graduate scholarship is May 15th.  The Board of Governors award is a $1,000 award to a June, 2018 graduating high school student. A minimum of one award is available to each high school on PEI.  The Post Graduate scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship to a full time student entering the first year of a Masters or Phd. program. Stress Relief Workshops: 2 pm, Sundays in May, Kent Rm, Charlottetown Hotel –

May 20th – Getting a Handle on Stress – provides valuable information on the fight-or-flight response and talks about the effects of long-term stress on our bodies. It also uses the surprising laws of quantum physics to help us see things differently.

May 13 & 27th – Getting Along with Others and Ourselves – since relationships, both at home and in the workplace, are often our biggest source of stress, this workshop offers common sense ways to shift how we deal with people and ourselves.

Presenter Louise Carota shares her knowledge on a wide range of subjects including the workings of the human brain and quantum mechanics. The information is based on the course “Meditation and the Brain” given last winter at the Spirituality Centre.  Each session ends with a 15 minute guided meditation.  Cost – donation/pay as you can

 

Holy Land Pilgrimage This is your opportunity to see the Holyland. Father Gerard Chaisson, St. Mary’s Parish, Montague and Father Simon Lobo, Saint Benedict Parish, Halifax, are the spiritual leaders on this prayerful Pilgrimage.
