St. Pius X Church

Cemetery Sunday: At the Roman Catholic Cemetery Charlottetown, on Sunday, July 29, with Mass beginning at 2 pm. The entrance from St. Peter’s Road will be blocked off. For the safety of all attending there will be no parking on the Mass site. Parking will be at the Kensington Road entrance and St. Pius X Church. In case of rain the Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church.

Are you the parent of a young child?   Are you a young adult or retiree seeking a way to serve the Church?  Are you a grandparent desiring a means to pass on the Faith?  Do you have carpentry skills? Do you sew?   We need you!   The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is having a “seed planting” information session Sept. 12 at 7pm in the Knights of Columbus room of St Dunstan’s Basilica.  We invite any and all to “come and see” this Montessori-based approach to teaching the Faith to young children. Chiara Luce Badano

The “Camp Chiara Luce” Catholic girls camp for ages 10-15, will be held this year from 6 PM August 17th until 12:30 PM August 19th, at Camp Kolbe in Grand River. St Joachim’s Parish in Vernon River, PEI is seeking a Music Director. Qualifications include: a Bachelor of Music , proficiency in piano and/or organ playing and excellent interpersonal skills.  Experience in choral conducting is considered an asset. Fr. Bob Coady

Father Bob Coady has written a small book entitled “In The Midst of it All. Ten Essays and Reflections on Life and Faith.”  Topics include Family, Death of the Young, Grief, Suicide, Mercy and other relevant subjects, each accompanied by appropriate scriptural references.  Copies are available for sale through some parish offices in churches where Fr. Bob has served over the past forty two years, including St. Francis, Cornwall; St. Mary’s, Montague; St. Pius X and Holy Redeemer, Charlottetown, and are also available at The Bookmark in the Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown.

Bishop MacEachern’s Tomb

PEI Camino, “The Way of Bishop MacEachern: A Walking Pilgrimage to St. Andrew’s Chapel.” The Friends of St. Andrew’s invites you to join us for a 6 km walk in the footsteps of Bishop Angus Bernard MacEachern.  Starting with Holy Mass at St. Dunstan’s Basilica on Saturday 21 July @ 9 am, we will then travel by car to Scotchfort and walk to St. Andrew’s Chapel.  Lunch at the chapel provided.  To register or for details, please email Robert Dennis, rdennis@upei.ca.

The summer pipe organ / vocal recital series begins July 17/18 with Basilica organist Leo Marchildon. Concerts are held Tuesday evenings at 7 pm in the Church of St. Simon & St. Jude (Tignish) and Wednesday afternoons at 1 pm in St. Dunstan’s Basilica (Charlottetown). Vocal artists include sopranos Robyn Perry (July 24 / 25), Andrea Corder (July 31 / August 1), and Sylvia Mutch (August 7 /8). The series continues with organists Don Fraser (Aug 14 / 15), George Bozeman (Aug 21 / 22) and Philip Crozier (August 28 / 29). The final concert features saxophonist Sophie Decourval and organist Jacques Boucher (September 4 / 5). Free will offering.

Shane and Michael Pendergast host Traditional Ceilidhs at St Michael’s Hall, Corran Ban, 1231 Route 6, every Monday evening at 7:30, July and August. A wonderful evening’s entertainment for everyone.

Vacation Bible School in Summerside

Shipwrecked Vacation Bible Camp... St. Paul’s Parish in Summerside will be hosting a FREE summer day camp from August 20-24, 9:00 am-3:00 pm each day, for elementary children going in grades 1-6. The theme of the camp will be “Shipwrecked” and the kids will have their best summer ever, creating art, playing games, making friends and growing in faith. Space is limited. Blessed Pope Paul VI

“Pope Paul VI and Humanae Vitae: 50 Years Later “  In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Church’s encyclical on birth control, Humanae Vitae, and in recognition of the upcoming canonization of its author, Pope Paul VI, please join us for a public talk on these subjects by three UPEI professors, Dr. Robert Dennis, Dr. Ariana Patey, and Dr. Peter Koritansky. The event will take place in the basement of St. Dunstan’s Basilica on Friday, July 27th at 7 pm. There will be a Q&A afterwards

Bishop Peter MacIntyre

Fr. Art O’Shea will speak on Bishop Peter MacIntyre at St. Andrew’s Chapel on Sunday July 8th at 2 pm.   Born in Cable Head in 1818, MacIntyre was the third bishop of the Diocese of Charlottetown.   He supported of Catholic education on the Island by making improvements to St. Dunstan’s College, and in the building of St. Patrick’s School for boys in Charlottetown.  This school later became Queen Square School.  In concern for the health of the people he pushed for the opening of the Charlottetown Hospital in 1879, the first one on the Island.    St. Andrew’s Chapel is 2 miles east of Mt. Stewart on the St. Peters Rd. Admission is by donation and a luncheon will be served.

Fr. Maurice Praught

St. Pius X Parish Council invites parishioners throughout the Diocese to join with us celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Fr. Maurice Praught’s Ordination to the Priesthood. The celebration will be held at St. Pius X Church, 106 St. Peter’s Road, Charlottetown in the MacKenzie Room (lower level of the Church) on July 15th at 11:30 am (after 10:30 am Mass). Refreshments will be served.

Stay Connected Youth Retreat…  All youth ages 15 and up are invited to a day retreat at St. Paul’s Parish in Summerside on Saturday, July 21st. The retreat will begin at 9:30 am with Mass and the Holy Eucharist, followed by a welcoming and registration. This retreat will focus on God’s love and the relationship we have with him. Throughout the day, there will be a variety of activities, as well as the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  The day will conclude at 4:00 pm. St. Patrick’s Church, Grand River

Annual St Patrick’s Parish Picnic – Grand River, Sunday, July 8th, 1:00PM-4:30PM: Come out to enjoy and support our annual parish picnic in beautiful Grand River with an afternoon of fun and community.  There will be BBQ, Bingo, Children’s Games, a Cake Auction, Booths, a Flea Market, and local entertainment. Everyone is invited and most welcome!

Owen Connolly

Connolly Estate Bursaries are now available to qualifying university students in their first, second, third or fourth year.   A change in policy means university students can now receive support for a maximum of four years (not two). In addition, college students who are completing a joint program/degree may also qualify during their university studies.   The bursaries are open to full-time university students who are male or female, Roman Catholic, and Irish in heritage. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Apply at www.owenconnollyestate.com before August 31.   Recent bursaries have been in the range of $3,000/year, though they may be lower depending on market returns and the number of applicants.

Holy Land Pilgrimage This is your opportunity to see the Holy Land. Father Gerard Chaisson, St. Mary’s Parish, Montague and Father Simon Lobo, Saint Benedict Parish, Halifax, are the spiritual leaders on this prayerful Pilgrimage. Knights to Remember Choral Group

Fall Choral Workshop Weekend – St. Francis of Assisi Church in Cornwall and the Knights of Columbus Council #10808 will be hosting a special weekend of choral workshops on the evening of Friday, September 21, and the morning of September 22. Conducting the workshops will be vocal coach Paul Grambo (Elora Festival Singers, London, Ontario), accompanied by Leo Marchildon (St. Dunstan’s Basilica, Charlottetown).   Advance registration is required and is $15 per workshop or $25 for both sessions.

Coro Cantabile of Cape Breton
