Get Out of the Boat Retreat at Our Lady of Hope Retreat Centre:  Begins with registration 6:00-7:00 pm Friday, April 20 and finishes with 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, April 21.  Get Out of the Boat – Learn how to move beyond fear, to God’s unique calling for your life.  St. Peter may have been the first out of the boat, but Jesus’ invitation to walk on water is for you as well. St. Francis of Assisi

Interested in Finding Out About the Secular Franciscan Order? Come to an information session at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Cornwall on Sunday April 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the church hall. A short (30 minute) presentation on life in fraternity and Franciscan spirituality with an opportunity to ask questions will be offered. Food and fellowship will follow. Saint Dunstan Scholarship: Students graduating in June, 2018 are reminded that the deadline to apply for the SDU Scholarship is April 15th. Valued at $5,000 and renewable for an additional 3 years. The Amabile Singers: Under the direction of Travis Boudreau, the Singers will present a concert of choral music on Sunday, April 15 at 7:30 pm; at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Charlottetown. An enchanting evening of acapella pieces as well as songs featuring accompanist, Andrea Ellis, and special guest soloists, Shannon Scales (soprano) and Marc Desroches (oboe). Admission $15 at the door.

Holy Land Pilgrimage This is your opportunity to see the Holyland. Father Gerard Chaisson, St. Mary’s Parish, Montague and Father Simon Lobo, Saint Benedict Parish, Halifax, are the spiritual leaders on this prayerful Pilgrimage. The itinerary has been carefully arranged with full consideration to the ministry of Christ as opposed to merely a tour of the Holyland. Dates for this Pilgrimage are Oct. 7 – 18, 2018. Christian Women’s Retreat Day with Lynn DeLong on Saturday, April 21 from 10am – 3pm. Her theme is Women Renewed and Alive in the Spirit. Lynn is a member of the Anglican Church, a member of the Spiritual Directors Association and a facilitator of our Women’s Group here at the Centre. Cost $30. Come and bring a friend.

Fabric of Our Lives Workshop Day Friday, April 27 from 9am – 3pm with Sinikka Dixon, retired sociologist living in St. Catherines, PE. Her workshop deals with the five cycles of change in our lives (age, family, education, work, leisure) and promises to be an interactive experience. Cost $30, need to register by April 24 or as long as spaces last.

Ecumenical Vigil for the Lost Children of PEI: The PEI Right to Life Association invites all Islanders to join them on Sunday, April 22nd at 7 pm at the Christian Reformed Church, 153 Mt. Edward Rd., Charlottetown for a special Memorial Service of prayer, candle lighting, and song for children who have been lost to miscarriage, still birth, abortion, accident, illness, etc. Personal testimonies will testify to God’s faithfulness. This 2nd annual Vigil is held as part of Celebrate Life Week (April 22-28). We pray this Vigil may help to bring healing, comfort and support to hurting parents and families, as well as awareness, openness and unity to their surrounding community. The PEI Right to Life Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting, Saturday, April 28th, 9am – 3pm, at St. Pius X Church, St. Peter’s Rd, Charlottetown. In light of the many and recent changes in our country concerning the protection of life from fertilization to natural death the membership is strongly encouraged to attend. Plan to come.

Lay Pastoral Associates 2018

Additional Intake of Lay Pastoral Associate Formation Candidates: As a reminder, In September 2018, additional candidates for the Diocesan Lay Pastoral Associate (LPA) Formation Program will be accepted. Parishes are encouraged to discern potential candidates for the program. The deadline for the submission of candidates’ names is June 15, 2018. “A Nun’s Life Ministry” Visits Prince Edward Island: A Nun’s Life Ministry will meet with Sister Susan Kidd, CND, on April 18, 2018, as part of the video podcast series entitled Mother House Road Trip. Sister Maxine Kollasch, IHM, and her team are touring the mother houses of different congregations to meet with sisters who are working with youth and talk about their mission. Young people join the meeting either on location, where the video is being made, or via the online discussion.

With this visit A Nun’s Life Ministry will not be going to the mother house but, rather, will visit the University of Prince Edward Island where Sister Susan Kidd is chaplain. Sister Anne T. Gillis will also take part in the meeting. Students of Sister Karen Kelly who teaches at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, will be invited to join the group in an online conversation on religious life.

Pipes & Pizza at St. Dunstan’s Basilica:   Organist Leo Marchildon invites any youth or young adults who wish to learn more about the pipe organ to come and visit the loft of St. Dunstan’s Basilica at noon on Saturday, April 28 for a special program designed to showcase the astounding capabilities of this magnificent machine. Following a mini organ concert featuring music from Bach to Star Wars, attendees will have an opportunity to go behind the console and explore the inner workings of the pipe organ, and even get some hands-on time playing the instrument.  Pizza will then be served in the basement as a reward for those who survive the experience!

This event is sponsored by the PEI chapter of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, whose mandate it is to educate and promote organ and choral music throughout the Island. As vice-president for the RCCO, Mr. Marchildon is pleased to be able to offer this unique introduction to the King of Instruments in the hopes of inspiring a new generation of organists to emerge from our youth.
