Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2018

The Charlottetown Area Christian Council will celebrate the World Wide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with an inter-denominational Prayer Breakfast and a Sunday evening concluding Service.  The Prayer Breakfast will be held at the Rodd Charlottetown Hotel beginning promptly at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 20.  The concluding service is on Sunday, January 28 at 7 p.m. at St. Dunstan’s Basilica.  For information contact Don Gaudet at 902-218-1170 or

Couple’s Retreat Days

Announcing a Special Couples Program: An exciting event for couples of all ages and stages, who want to build a healthier and happier relationship, takes place in Our Lady of Hope Retreat Centre, Stanley Bridge, Feb. 2-3rd. Sponsored by the K of C Cornwall Council #10808, it begins on Friday evening 6 pm with a candlelight dinner and an overnight stay and continues the next morning with Mass at 8:30 followed by breakfast and two engaging workshops with inspirational facilitators: 1) with Father John Molina entitled From This Day Forward, and 2) with Dr. Sinnika Dixon entitled The Gift of Time: The Fabric of our Lives in the Five Cycles of Change.  The program concludes with lunch at 1 pm and a closing blessing.

There are two options for those who cannot stay overnight, with costs per couple for all three packages available on request.  Pre-registration with a $50 deposit is required by Monday Jan. 22nd. 1)  Lunch and Learn, a Grace series of 7 Monday afternoon sessions from 12:45-1:45pm beginning on Jan. 15. With tea/coffee and biscuits, join us in these reflective responses to Pope Francis’ document on Care of our Common Home. Topics include Grace of Earth, Grace of Water, Grace of Atmosphere, Grace of Oceans, Grace of Land etc. Cost $30. Led by Sisters Gemma and Debbie. Need to register by Jan. 14.

2)  Enneagram Workshops (exploring the 9 systems of personalities) on Wednesday mornings from 9-11:30am beginning Jan 17 until Feb. 21. Cost is $50 a person or $90 a couple. Need to register by Jan. 15 or as long as spaces last.

Theology on Tap

Please join us for our first Theology on Tap of 2018!  Dr. David Sabapathy, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer for PEI, will speak on “The Christian Worldview as a Foundation for Public Health Practice.”  Presented by the SDU Institute of Christianity and Culture, 25 January 2018, 7pm at the Pourhouse, 189 Great George Street.  We look forward to seeing you!

Ryan MacRae

The Latin American Mission Program (LAMP) is announcing that a new LAMP missionary, Ryan MacRae, is preparing to go to the Dominican Republic (DR). Ryan, from Stratford, will leave PEI before the end of January. Most Reverend Bishop Richard Grecco will preside over a missioning ceremony, indicating that Ryan is being sent by the Diocese of Charlottetown to the church in the Dominican Republic.  In the DR, Ryan will be received by the Misioneros del Sacrado Corazón (Missionaries of the Sacred Heart) in Santiago de los Caballeros. He will live with a Dominican family to be introduced to the culture and to improve his Spanish.

Ryan will become part of an organization, Fondacion Mujer Iglesia (Woman-Church Foundation). He will gradually involve himself in the work of Mujer Iglesia which is to improve the lives of impoverished families in the region by community organizing to develop the economic and social self-reliance of women.

The missioning celebration will take place during the Sunday Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 9:00 AM.
